Cryptomator android google drive auth fails "this app is blocked"

I bought Cryptomator in the Play Store recently, and then tried to add my encrypted vault from Google Drive, but instead I got a pop-up saying:

This app is blocked

This app tried to access sensitive info in your Google Account. To keep your account safe, Google blocked this access.

(I can’t post screenshot here because its blocked for some reason.)

It then fails to authenticate Google Drive.

I found a similar problem to this involving Google’s Advanced Protection Program, but I never enrolled to the program in the first place, and when I tried to enroll, and un-enroll it afterward, the problem still occurs.

Edit: I found out it may be related to this. Unfortunately, due to Cryptomator unverified service status, new users (like me) cannot use encrypted vaults from Google Drive. This problem can only be fixed on their end.

It does seem like Cryptomator doesn’t care about this issue since it had been addressed quite long time ago but nothing happened…

P/s: As my post here, Google now alerts to all users about Cryptomator without actually using the Google Advanced Protection.

Sorry that we didn’t respond to your original post until now. We do care, and we’re working on it with a very high priority. I’ve mentioned the challenges that we’re facing in the other post. Unfortunately, there is no workaround, and we have to fix it on our end. Hopefully, we can get through the security assessment (Google CASA) as quick as we can.

Thank you for your response! I’m grateful to hear that the Cryptomator team is currently working to resolve this problem on their end.

In meantime, I have created a temporary workaround by hosting the encrypted vaults on a remote WebDAV server instead of putting it on Google Drive. From that, I’m still able to access it through Cryptomator Android remotely.

Anyway, I’ll be waiting until the Google Drive problem is fixed. Cheers!

Today I purchased Cryptomator in the Play Store and tried to add my encrypted vault from Google Drive but I’m having the same problem as @taruna . Solutions?
When?
Thank you.

See our blog post for an update on this issue:

Soon inshallah, let’s say after 2 or 3 days/weeks/months/years/centuries :sob:

This or a similar issue has existed for some time (see link) and customers who want to use the software with GoogleDrive should be informed before purchasing it.
While waiting for the resolution, what should I do to request a refund?

See our blog post for an final update on this issue:

This is solved now :tada:

I just tried again but when I go to add an existing vault in Google Drive, created from PC, the Android app still displays the generic “an error occurred” error. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it from the Play Store and to be careful I also deleted the cache but the problem is still the same.

Please send us your log file: How do I enable debug mode on Android?

Done, email sent, waiting for instructions

I highly assume you have enabled “Advanced Protection Program” in Google? If so, this is completely independent to this topic here.

That’s right, I deactivated Google’s Advanced Protection Program and thanks to today’s news the app now works. I recommend adding this information to this article as well.
Thank you.
