Which external servers does Cryptomator connect to, and why?

I was just installing Cryptomator 1.7.2 and noticed before its first windows launches, it tries to phone home to a server within *.scw.cloud

This is a security product. Please explain why this product does connect to some other service.

Cryptomator does only 1 external call, and that is a look for updates. You can disable it in your settings.

Best practices would dictate such a request would be opt-in rather than opt-out. Please file the appropriate issue for the various clients on GitHub & resolve for the next version(s).

@6c85jz24-brg68s51g-f With Cryptomator 1.10.0 we changed the behaviour. On first startup it asks to check for updates and only if the user accepts it checks regularly.
