I wonder what happens if I check the option to install “WebDAV System Configuration” using the Windows Installer. What is it doing and why is it needed? Is it needed if I use Dokany to mount my vault?
Unfortunately I could not find an answer in this forum or in the documentation.

The WebDAV System configuration writes a key to the registry to register the Windows internal webclient service (which supports the WebDAV protocol) as a network provider.
Without it, you cannot unlock and mount your vault with WebDAV. If you only use Dokan, it is not needed.
