Windows Hello vs. Windows Data Protection

Cryptomator 1.18.0 (msi-5957)
Windows 10

Hello, I have a Cryptomator vault set up in my Dropbox. Recently this issue started occuring:

When editing a file in the Cryptomator vault, the temporary files created by the editing application sometimes did not get deleted after exiting the application. (I think this might have started happening after Cryptomator was updated to a newer version, but I’m not positive this was the triggering event.)

I looked at Cryptomator’s settings to see if I could do anything to correct this behavior. I noticed this setting and changed “Windows Hello” to “Windows Data Protection”:

Vault > Preferences > General > Store passwords with [Windows Hello / Windows Data Protection]

This change was just a stab in the dark: I don’t know what the difference is between the two settings.

But it seems to have fixed the problem!

My question is: Was it safe for me to make this change? Does it make sense to any of you that this should correct the offending behavior?
