version 1.14.2 (msi-5384), vault was created on the same version.
Hi there, I have accidentally deleted my vault and masterkey files. I deleted them and the .bkup files thinking they were from a vault I didnt want anymore. Because it was on a NAS they did not go to a recycle bin (recycle bin wasnt set up, it is now though). Also no backup of the NAS drive as I use it for storing backups. Yeah pretty dumb to store a vault on a backup drive but I was just playing around with it at first then started using it proper and never moved it.
The d directory structure is still there, and I still have my recovery passphrase.
What hasn’t worked so far:
-
Tried recovering using tools like EaseUS for NAS and Disk Drill but the masterkey.cryptomator and vault.cryptomator files are not found - or they could not be reconstructed.
-
Tried using a vault file from another vault, and resetting masterkey with my passphrase like this → Recover masterkey file with recovery key? - #4 by tobihagemann
it does not work though as it recognises the vault file is from another vault.
- Tried downgrading to an earlier version that does not use a vault config file (1.5.*). This allowed me to open the vault but when it mounted the drive it did not show any of my files. It was like it created brand new vault and ignored the d directory files.
Do i have any options or is that data locked away forever now?
I was hoping with the recovery key passphrase I would be OK but it appears the later versions really need that vault.cryptomater file, and without it I think I’m cooked.
Open to any/all ideas
