USB Thumb Drive with USB-A & USB-C ports?

Hi.

I just found out about Cryptomator and have one question. I purchased a USB thumb stick that has USB-A on one end and USB-C on the other. This will allow me to use the thumb stick on my Win 11 pro PC and my Android phone. My question is this. How would I install Cryptomator on the thumb stick and have it work on Windows and Android? Do I have to install separate copies of the software for each OS?

Thanks,
John

PS: If you register the Android app can you install that app on multiple thumb sticks or SSDs, etc… or is it one install per device?

Yes.
There is an (unofficial) portable app, but it is for desktop, not android.

The android app needs an android os. You cannot install it on ssd or thumb sticks.
The license is personal bound. Like any other app from playstore, you can install it on as many devices as you own as long as your playstore is connected to the same account.

Thanks for the quick response.

One follow up question… If I plug into a desktop without the Cryptomator app on it, I won’t be able to use the files on the thumb stick, correct? If so is it possible to make a small partition on the USB stick that doesn’t get encrypted and have the Cryptomator Windows app available on that partition when plugged in to any Win 10/11 PC?

Yes thats correct. You need the cryptomator app installed to encrypt/decrypt your files (aka to access your vault)

Cryptomator does not work like Veracrypt, where you encrypt partitions. You always have a vault that is stored wherever you want (a usb drive is suitable as well). this vault will be connected to your cryptomator app. With the cryptomator app you access the vault. So yes, you can set up a vault on your usb. that means everything in that vault is encrypted, everything else on that stick is not.
