Updating Cryptomator

Hello, I am new to Cryptomator, i did install and have been running fine but I notice there is an update to run for the App on my Windows desktop. Is the update seamless ?, do I need to do anything before running it ? does it just overwrite the previous App and install the update ? I have downloaded it but have not run it yet.
I am worried about whether is will completely delete my files during the process and I am not prepared before hand, I dont like surprises so it is why I ask about my first update

If the files are important to you then you should have multiple backups. Don’t trust any process to go right, even though it usually does. If the update doesn’t fail, a disk could fail, a crash could corrupt files, a virus could ruin everything, something could be accidentally deleted, or whatever else. Make regular copies of the encrypted files to different places.

I can’t advise on the update process as I am using my own non-automatic update process, so someone else should answer that part. But having regular backups is mandatory if you care about your files.

You can just update. Cryptomator will not delete any data in your vault.

Maybe it is not always that simple as some times in the past the vault format was changed and data had to be auto-migrated, with potential issues if the process failed or got stuck.

Backups are the best defense against everything because something will fail sooner or later (not only cryptomator-related). Then you can update safely without worrying.

I had no intention of contradicting that. I just wanted to answer the initial question.
Encryption covers the risks for data protection. Backups are there for data security. One cannot cover the risks of the other.
