When I connect my external SSD (Samsung 990, 4TB, exFAT) to the iPhone 15 Pro Max (iOS 18.3.2) and want to open my vault via the iOS app I am seeing this… I dont understand how else am I supposed to open the vault if I am unable to select it from FILES app???
This doesn’t look like the Files app itself. Did you try to select the Cryptomator location from a third-party app? In that case, this is a known issue that can’t be fixed that easily, see: Unable to use Cryptomator as storage location in PhotoSync · Issue #48 · cryptomator/ios · GitHub
But if you open the Files app directly, Cryptomator should not be grayed out.
Thanks @tobihagemann for the reply. it is indeed FILES app, attached is the screen recording to show my challenge… Screen Recording
hope this helps… the Cryptomator part is grayed out, so no way for me to get the vault
Now I see the confusion. When you open an existing vault (or create a new vault), you don’t select the vault inside the Cryptomator location.
You mentioned that you’d like to select a vault inside the external SSD. In that case, “Other File Provider” is indeed correct. But I don’t see the external SSD in your Files app (neither in your screenshot nor in your screen recording).
I’ve recently tested a USB flash drive on my iPhone as well. If you connect the drive, you should be able to see it in your Files app. I can’t tell you why it’s missing, but this seems to be a problem with the Files app, not with Cryptomator.
here is the screen recording which shows the SSD in my iPhone.
you will see that cryptomator is in white, when I click that and want to add/access the vault and while selecting the location of the vault the cyptomator is grayed out. [Updated Screen Recording Here](https://we.tl/t-E54kzqHHja)
You are almost there. In the last step (where Cryptomator is grayed out), you have to select “MANSOOR 4TB”, then “Netmare Vault”, and then “Open” at the top right. And then follow the instructions.
Thanks @tobihagemann it worked!!! (thanks for all the help)
