Hi team ,
I am new to this cryptomator app. I have a few technical questions.

Technical question, so one thing I understand that whenever I upload an image from my phone , it will encrypt and then get uploaded. However, once it’s uploaded and I open the jpg image using Android or windows cryptomator so it obviously decrypts first and then I can see the image , here I want to know when I am viewing the image using your cryptomator app, can my cloud storage provider see it too and snoop into my data and do data analysis or whatever while I am viewing my data?

How can we avoid big companies like Google to stop scraping metadata as an additional precautionary step?

For the other files like PDF , do you have a feature where a PDF file can be decrypted and viewed on the fly and once closed , it’s encrypted again ?
Thanks for reading
Hi.
That would make the whole purpose of cryptomator (or encrypting of online data) useless. So no. Storage providers only have access to the encrypted files of your vault and thus can not see anything that is in your vault. The encryption and decryption always happens on your local device.
Your Sync tool needs a certain amount of meta data to work. Like timestamps or file size. See here for more info.
You documents are alway encrypted and decrypted on the fly. The online stored vault files are never stored anywhere online in an unencrypted state.

Perfect then , it means while viewing the data using CM app, it’s done on local device but not on cloud provider. That’s safe
For the PDF one, the file is decrypted locally on a device and then that device can select whatever PDF viewer it has, but my point was if you have your to own secure PDF viewer app than Samsung, google etc…?
As far as I know the Android App has no build in PDF Viewer.
The iOS App works different. In iOS Cryptomator is integrated in files app (like on desktop) and you can use whatever app you want to access the files in the vault.
