I have installed Cryptomator. How do I encrypt?
I only see options for adding and deleting vaults. Nothing more.
You encrypt your files by putting them into a vault.
so just create a new vault and follow the process.

But I’m quite confused.
I have created a vault within Cryptomator [C]. (A folder created by my file manager.) Then moved the folder I wanted to be encrypted into the vault folder. (By the file manager.)
When I open C there are no vault, only the option to create a NEW vault. When that is selected I’m presented with two options: - Create a new vault and - Add an existing vault. (The latter is a bit confusing, why adding something that already exist?)
When navigating (in C) by Local Storage the created vault appear on C screen. When selecting it a new screen appear that shows the folder I selected for the vault (to be encrypted). At the bottom the text “Choose master key or vault file”. (Note that I’m translating from the Swedish text.)
*Nothing happens when I click on that.*
When selecting (in C) the folder I get into that folder (with subfolders and files).
Here I have the same text as above and the same result when clicking on it.
No request for unlocking or key is issued by C in the sections above.
When reading the docs in the link it doesn’t match my experience as above.
Questions:
1. What am I supposed to do in the C screens as above?
2. When does the encryption occure?
The cryptomator app shows all vault you have connected to your app, and lets you unlock them. Either you have created a vault with the app, or you want to add an existing vault, for example if the vault was created by the desktop app.
Creating a vault means, that cryptmator is generating a vault folder on the selected path, and puts “the vault” (aka your encrypted files) in it, together with a masterkey file and a vault file and a subfolder “d”).
Do not store file in here manually. This vault folder is organised by cryptomator. And nothing will be encrypted if you place files here.
If you want to encrypt a file from your phone, select the file and share with cryptomator.
The masterkey file is only selected if you want to add an existing vault to your cryptomator app.
When selecting and share the folder I want to encrypt to C I get a C screen that have a “Save” button but nothing happens when I click on that.
Im afraid I have no idea what might cause this. Anyone else?
