Setting up Cryptomator to encrypt a medium to high set of data

Hi everyone,
This is my first post in this community. I’m absolutely newbie with using Cryptomator and I’d like to thank everyone in advance for any help.

I have organised my data on a Windows 11 Home PC using a ‘category’ approach. Each category (health, finance, home, etc) has a main folder (under Documents), which then expands in a number of subfolders at 2 to 3 levels below.

I want to save this data to a Cloud server. A subset of the categories (which I consider sensitive information) I wish to upload encrypted from my computer (zero knowledge concept). This would amount to 100-150 Gb, comprising each a main folder with many subfolders at different levels.

I have done some testing, which involves local storage only, with a small number of folders/subfolders and the results are good for this limited set of data. Naturally I’d need to access regularly files in one of these encrypted ‘categories’ to add, change, delete files in them.

I’d appreciate your comments on:

  • Is Cryptomator a suitable application to handle this amount of data (capacity, speed, reliability, etc)?
  • Can you suggest any tips regarding an efficient way to organise the data to be managed by Cryptomator?

Thank you!

Miguel

Hi and welcome.

Question 1: yes

Question 2: that’s totally up to you. There are no real benefits in doing it this or that way. Just treat it like a normal storage and manage the files the way it suits you.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your comments and for taking the time to reply!

They give me the confidence to go ahead with my little project.
Kind regards

Miguel

I’m a longtime Cryptomator user. I organise folders normally and upload the lot to the cloud. Never had any problems. The big positive with Cryptomator is that it works great on the iPhone.
