Running Dropbox on 2 PCs question

hello,

I have dropbox installed on 2 different computers (Win10), both syncing the same files. If i install cryptomator on PC1 will that work also on PC2 or when that PC2 wants to sync files in dropbox then it will crash or something?

Do i need to install that on both machines?

thanks

You need to have Cryptomator installed on both PCs to open you vault that is stored in Dropbox. The Dropbox client will sync the (encrypted) vault files. That’s how Cryptomator works.
You might want to view this video or read the documentation on how to setup Cryptomator with an online storage like Dropbox.

In the setup above - does one need to be careful about whether the vault is decrypted on Both PC’s at the same time? if a sub-folder is added to the vault on one PC, what is needed to make sure it synchronizes to the other pc?

Yes and no. Yes, there’s a small change of a sync conflict if 2 persons are working with the same file in the same vault at the same time. No, you do not have to worry. If a conflict is detected, Cryptomator handles it like most online storage provider do, and creates 2 files. Its up to you then to choose which file you want to keep, and to merge differences. see here: Synchronization Conflicts | Cryptomator Documentation Please note: just to have the vault unlocked on both PCs does not create conflicts.

This is the job of the app from your online storage provider. For example OneDrive Client, or the GDrive client, or the DropBox software.
