Rename a vault - possible?

Hello,

is it possible to rename a vault or do I have to create a new one and then copy all files in the new (renamed) vault?

Yes, you can absolutely rename the vault. But you have to do it “outside of” Cryptomator. Since a vault is simply a directory, just rename it using Windows File Explorer. After that, delete the vault inside Cryptomator from the list (since the name/location has changed) and then re-add the vault by clicking “+” and selecting “Open Existing Vault”.

Hey! I know this is a very old thread, so apologies for the notification, but this came up as the top search result for how to rename a vault, and it looked out of date for May 2025, so here is the new awesome way to rename your vault:

Desktop

  1. Open Vault Options.
  2. In Vault Name, edit to your desired name.
