Raw files seen on cloud after encrypting with cyberduck

I setup a webdav connection for filelu cloud using cyberduck and created an encrypted vault with cryptomator. I believe cyberduck has cryptomator integrated since it opened up cryptomator prompt when i created the vault. After creating the vault I placed some files and synced it with the storage and closed the connection. However, when I checked the cloud storage where the cryptomator folder was created the files dropped in the folder showed the full contents in raw text and did not appear encrypted, inspite of the folder having the vault files and other cryptomator specific folder.

I followed the same method with koofr, box, onedrive and couple of other clouds offering webdav support and each of them appeared to work fine. I couldn’t view the files or the contents when accessing the storage and showed only the crypto folder and files. But they did show my files when accessing from cyberduck and entering the crypto credentials.

When I submitted a ticket with filelu, their response was -

Hello, Unfortunately, we have no experience with Cryptomator. Have you tried reaching out to Cryptomator support or the developer? Best regards, FileLu Support

I wanted to know if this is a bug with cryptomator or with that specific cloud? Or am I doing anything wrong?

Hoping to get some insights into this.

Thanks.

Hi
As Cyberduck has integrated the source of Cryptomator, I recommend to open a support ticket there.

It’s difficult to guess what might cause this, especially if it works for other storages. Maybe there’s a log file of Cyberduck that can clear what’s going on.

I also use Cyberduck, and its usage is straight forward as you described. Open the vault, place file in it. That’s it.

Please make sure that you are opening a vault and not store the files by mistake in an unencrypted state besides or in the „d“ folder of your encrypted vault files.

Thanks for your reply.

Will check with cyberduck.

I was placing the files from within cyberduck inside the crypto session. To place the file outside of crypto would mean I need to use the browser which I did not. And that is what stumped me initially thinking if i did something wrong. And so I repeated the same with all other providers in the same manner and they all worked fine. Maybe I’ll give one more try to iron out any other sequencing issues and see if it works this time.

Thanks.

To avoid confusion: Cyberduck does just connect. Of course you can use it without a Cryptomator vault and place any file you want at your online storage without encryption. .

Agreed. I wanted to encrypt and upload.
