pCloud Drive desktop app and Cryptomator

Hello all,

I’m relatively new to cloud services and encryption, so sorry if it is a dumb question or if it’s not worded correctly.

I installed pCloud Drive on my Windows desktop. The app creates a virtual drive like the one when one opens his Cryptomator vault, which is my cloud storage.

As my pCloud storage is just another drive for Windows, I can create a Cryptomator vault on there. If I now open the vault on my PC and place a file into it (of course the virtual drive created by Cryptomator, not the folder that is placed in the virtual drive of the pCloud app), is there any point at which pCloud can see the unencrypted version of the file or just the encrypted version as soon as Cryptomator completed the encryption?

Hi,

Very good questions. Pcloud does scan all unencrypted files.

If you create a vault and place it on Drive p and then unlock the vault into another Drive letter you then put the files into that other Drive letter which is the unencrypted version of the Vault and as soon as the files are transferred to pcloud they are encrypted so the answer to your question is no pcloud cannot read the unencrypted versions of your files that are stored inside a Vault.

This is the reason to use this software. To keep your personal files personal.
