Yes. Cryptomator includes a built-in recovery method called a Recovery Key.
When you create a Cryptomator vault, you can generate a recovery key that allows you to regain access to your encrypted files if you forget the vault password.
How it works
Recovery Key: Cryptomator generates a special sequence of words that you can save separately from your password.
Password recovery: If you forget your vault password, you can use the recovery key to reset it.
No online account required: Cryptomator doesn’t need an online account or a recovery email address.
Offline storage: You can print the recovery key, store it in a password manager, or save it somewhere secure.
The important distinction is that the recovery key is for the individual vault, not a Cryptomator account.
How to retrieve your recovery key in Windows
If you’ve already created a vault and still know its password:
Open Cryptomator.
Select your vault and make sure it’s locked.
Click Vault Options.
Select the Password tab.
Click Display Recovery Key.
Enter your current vault password.
Copy or print the recovery key and store it safely.
If you forget the password later, return to the same tab, choose Recover Password, enter the recovery key, and establish a new password.
Two important points:
The recovery key remains valid even after you change your vault password.
If you lose both your password and recovery key, Cryptomator cannot recover your encrypted data for you.
