New to Cryptomator I think I got it BUT

I am using cryptomator to store files that I want private nothing copyrighted mostly bank statements , important papers ect……… I use Pcloud and do not want to pay to use their crypto folder as they charge for the extra encryption.
So, I set up cryptomator on my windows 11 laptop & my iPhone 16 pro max running ios 26.4. I struggled to figure out where to put the folder so that cryptomator will encrypt the files there. BUT I think i got it.
On my windows laptop I dragged & dropped the files in cryptomator encryption folder I made in the virtual drive and Other than knowing IF the files that I moved are encrypted? When I log into Pcloud I see the file that I named & the files in there but are they encrypted?? This is what I m not sure of? When I get on my android device and go to cryptomator then files I see them and they are in the cryptomator app & encrypted. BUT they are also in the pcloud folder & I dont think those are encrypted?? make sense?? All I want to be sure of is when I move files to the cryptomator vault are those the only ones encrypted? or are the files within Pcloud in that folder encrypted? If not can I remove them from PCloud and open them via the cryptomator app or will my vault disappear??
I also have a hard time finding the path where my cryptomator vault is BUT I think I got it as I made a 2nd cryptomator vault & followed the path & have a copy & it worked so I think I got it… somewhat…any help is appreciated…

Also, I got a weird message and also a “vault not accessible” issue?? so I deleted them & redid my vaults & since then no issues. I DO have a back up of what is on cryptomator in case of errors like that and will keep my backup until I’m very good at using cryptomator

I like cryptomator but find it a bit difficult to use…

No they are not. If you can see the real file names on your Pcloud storage, the files are not encrypted by cryptomator. Please make sure you palace the files you want to encrypt in the virtual drive that shows up as soon as you unlock your vault. And please check your pcloud synchronisation. You want to sync your encrypted vault files (path is shown below your vault in the app), and not the content of your vault (your virtual drive)

Yes

No. Only the files you Place in your virtual drive

I don’t get your question.

I moved the files to the encrypted folder but I still see them in my pcloud do I delete those? did they copy to the folder? & I can remove the files in pcloud that I can read .

You should start from scratch with a new vault.

For example: the folder that is synced with pcloud is c:\pcloud

Then create a vault „yourvault“ in c:\pcloud.

Never ever move, delete, copy anything in the folder „yourvault“. This is your vault aka you encrypted files.

If you want a file encrypted in your vault, unlock the and copy that file in the new virtual drive that will appear.

As soon as you put something in your vault directory, you can see encrypted files being generated in „yourvault“ and being synced with pcloud

Its crucial that you do not mess up „yourvault“ because you will damage your vault and will loose the encrypted files.
