Local Storage - Not Cloud

I am testing out Cryptomator for use in a PhD research project that requires password/encryption protection of subjects’ data. As such I will not be storing any data on the cloud. All storage is local on an SSD internal drive and two USB SSD external drives. I saw earlier posts that indicated Cryptomator is not intended for local storage. Since I will not be using the cloud, but merely seeking to encrypt and password protect files in local storage, is Cryptomator appropriate or should I seek another solution?

As you said, Cryptomator is designed for cloud usage, but of course you can use it local only as well.
A solution that is designed for local encryption is veracrypt for example.
