Iphone cryptomator how to set up

Well, I had a lot of issues with the learning curve with cryptomator, Mostly with duplicate vaults that I couldn’t find. I am using pcloud and want to use cryptomator to encrypt my sensitive files. In trying to learn, I had duplicate vaults & it was a mess. So, what I did was open a new pcloud account that I will reload with all my files & then add the cryptomator folder and encrypt the files BUT this time I am only making one folder named encrypted with cryptomator & want to be sure I understand it so I do it right. Can you confirm what I will do is correct??

1, create the pcloud account & add my files to pcloud & once done, make a folder in pcloud and I will label it encrypted with cryptomator << this way I KNOW everything I will put in there will be the right place & encrypted.

2, go to the cryptomator app on IOS & add my vault using my email ( completely new so no previous vaults that I cannot find wont occur)

3, once added I will add my folder that I created in pcloud >> encrypted with cryptomator as the folder to encrypt, then ( here is where I want to be SURE I do it right) move my files from the pcloud folders that are not encrypted & move them to encrypted with cryptomator & once done & they are there, go back to the unencrypted files in pcloud & delete them ( as they are not in the encrypted folder) is this correct?? When you “move “files or folders they remain in pcloud so, to be sure only encrypted files are available, i need to “delete” the files/folders that are unencrypted correct.?
I believe once I move my files from my unencrypted folder in pcloud to the encrypted with cryptomator folder with pcloud & delete the files I will successfully have set up pcloud??

Is this the same process to add a encrypted cryptomator folder in google drive as well??

I hope this is the way to set up cryptomator…

No this is not the right way and way to complicated.

I highly recommend to read the manual and watch the tutorial.

I can not understand why you don’t find the path to your vaults.

When you crate a vault, you’ll have to enter the path where you vault is located. Thats where you find your vault. And even if you don’t remember that path, it is show right below your vaults name in the apps (like I wrote in one of your other posts)

On iOS:

on Desktop:

No need to do that. You can just wipe all data from your existing account if you want to start with an empty pcloud account.

No.

First of all: why would you put all your files unencrypted in your pcloud account and expose them to pcloud, just to move them later on into an encrypted vault. And no, just because you label a folder to be encrypted does not mean that everything in it will be encrypted. If you want to have all your vaults in one place on plcoud, then its the right way to create a folder on pcloud where you want to create your vaults later on. In my screenhsots that folder is named “VAULTS”.

No, you can not add vaults in IOS using email. You set up a WebDAV connection to your pCloud storage in the Cryptomator iOS App settings with the credentials of your PCloud WebDAV. Keep in mind that pCloud offers WebDAV Connections only for payed plans and you’ll have to disable 2FA (see cryptomator documentation or pCloud documentation)

No.

This means your files will not be encrypted by cryptomator. Just because you name a folder like that does not mean cryptomator will encrypt its content. How should cryptomator know that? If you want to put a file in a cryptomator vault (and thus encrypt it with cryptomator) you have to unlock your vault, and then put the files in the virtual drive (desktop). On iOS you open the files app, navigate to the “folder” that is named like the vault you have created (and has a cryptomator icon). As soon as you enter, the unlock process will start and open the vault. Then you put our files in it. Make sure you enabled your vaults in the files app, so they are shown (see documentation)

And last but not least again: why would you want to expose your sensitive files to pcloud in the first place, just to encrypt them later on?

The way you work with online storages and cryptomator is always the same. What differs is the way the storage is connected to the iOS app, or if you are on Desktop you need different sync clients.
