File size too large for target file system

OS_ WIN 11 Pro - Filesystem: NTFS

I created a vault on the local drive and copied a dirctory about 45GB on the same drive in the vault. So far so good, but when cryptomator copies a image file with about 16GB it fails with this message:

The file Backup_1GBoot_202220.img (14.7GB) is too large for the target file system.

That’s a joke, because the file and the vault are on the same drive (NTFS) and free space is 245GB

What’s the trick?

Hi.

Please make sure to use WinFSP as volume type.

Do not use WebDAV.

Because if you do, you’ll have limitations on Windows. Which means you can not copy files above 4 GB into the vault.

Hi Michael,

as I wrote: It is all on the same local disc - no WebDAV or anything else… because I installed Cryptomator using the EXE installer and then should WinFSP installed automatically.

It does not matter where your vault is located. I am talking about the volume type that specifies the virtual file system of your vault.

But nevertheless, if you already checked that WinFSP is configured in your Cryptomator settings, then I am out of ideas.

Your error description is typically for WebDAV vaults.

Hi Michael,

yes I understand, that the vault will be mounted as a virtual file system.

I checked the installation and the WinFSP was not proper installed. After Reinstall all works fine now and I bought the iOS App :slightly_smiling_face:

Many thanks for your fast support :+1:
