I’m a bit confused. Is it possible to encrypt a folder that is currently used for cloud backup and has many files in it? Or is it only possible to create a new vault folder and then sync it to the cloud?

Hi guys, I’m new to this product and not super techie so hoping someone can explain this to me.
My Google Photos and Google Drive are synced, so in my Google Drive, there is a “Google Photos” folder, where automatically, any photos added to my google photos account, are then uploaded to that folder.
My Goal:

You can not encrypt existing online Data with a local encryption (cryptomator) without having the data local.
That means, if you want to encrypt your existing data, you’ll have to download it (if not already available local), encrypt it and upload (sync) it again to your cloud storage.
Cryptomator desktop creates encrypted files local, that are synced via your storage providers client to the storage. Cryptomator is designed so that your provider never has access to unencrypted data.
