I started using Cryptomator on my Windows Desktop PC, which is a really good PC which I mostly use for gaming.
I had a folder aroung 40GB and when I encrypted and Decrypted that folder it was like SUPER FAST.
I always thought encryption/decryption was kind of slow but, when I used Cryptomator it was really really fast, it was almost like it did not encrypt decypt at all.
Most files are like 1GB or greater, and it is a lot of files.
Am I doing anything wrong? I just followed the steps showed on screen, Created a Vault, Reveal the decrypted drive, copy files which I want to encrypt to the driver folder and then lock it.
No you don’t. You wont really notice the encryption/decryption compared to the same process without it.
Example on my system (Windows 11 Pro Intel i5-13600k, 32MB)
Both source and target (vault) are on the same SSD
I created 30 txt files, each 1000000000 Bytes (which makes 27.9 GB in total), and copied them into a fresh vault.
Time: 2 Minutes, 15 Seconds (average speed is 206.67 MB/s)
I then just made a copy of these files on the SSD (means without cryptomator encryption). Time: 2 Minutes 10 Seconds (average speed 214.6 MB/s)
It looks like you’re doing everything just fine.
Each file gets encrypted as you copy it from an unencrypted location into your vault and then unlocking the vault doesn’t need to access each and every file it just unlocks the vault which is quick.
