Dokany on Windows 10 : "location is unavailable" Explorer msg

Cryptomator 1.4.6 on Windows 10 10.0 (amd64)

when mounting vault and using it after 5 minutes mount drive location becomes unavailable and therefore useless. Accessing from iOS instead works like a charm. Access via WebDav has worse issues. Please help.

I recreated problem with simple folder structure pupulated with dummy files and I am attaching

  • Activity sequence
  • sanitizer 0.15 output
  • cryptomator log (1.5MB avail on demand)

BTW: the same pattern using WebDav results in longer time usage (hours), but then Explorer remains in no-responding status. Attempt to kill the process results in stopping any other explorer activity and shutdown hanging forever. Only option is then brute power off. So at least using Dokany does not freeze the entire PC but just makes Cryptomator useless.

ACTIVITY SEQUENCE
created vault.test
create two test folders “1” and “2”
pouplated folder “2” with files
closed and restarted cryptomator in debug mode

open folder “2” and it works
open subfolder and it works
open pdf and it works
attempt to close pdf and not responding
open folder “1” and get “location is unavailable”
open folder “2” and get “location is unavailable”
open mounted drive results in “S:\ is unavailable” Explorer message
run sanitizer : found 0 problems
lock vault
exit cryptomator

Hi.

I had the same problem. It appears there was an issue with the Dokan driver crashing, which I noticed in the log file.

11:25:11.091 [App Background Thread 006] INFO com.dokany.java.DokanyDriver - Unmount and shutdown: H:
11:25:16.095 [App Background Thread 006] WARN o.cryptomator.frontend.dokany.Mount - Dokany driver will be canceled now…
11:25:16.096 [App Background Thread 006] WARN o.cryptomator.frontend.dokany.Mount - Dokany driver for drive H:: canceled.

I uninstall Dokan, and reinstalled Cryptomater without Dokan and it became stable again.

I’m actually having the same exact issue after updating Cryptomator to 1.5.10 (Dokan Library 1.4.0100). I tried uninstall both Cryptomator & Dokan and installing previous versions to no avail. WebDAV works but has a 4GB file limit which is actually preventing me from accessing and copying any files in my vault over 4GB.

Desperate for any help with this.

@madballneek You can try to use FUSE. Install WinFSP and select FUSE in the general preferences.

But be aware, that this feature is still in beta status. The known bugs can be found on our issue tracker.

Yeah I tried FUSE but oddly, when mounted, it doesn’t show all of my files. I’ll open a folder in Windows Explorer and files will be missing that I know should be there.

So it seems I was able to get Dokany mounting working again by doing the following steps.

  1. Uninstall Dokany
  2. Uninstall Cryptomator
  3. Restart computer
  4. Delete %APPDATA%\Cryptomator\ folder
  5. Install Cryptomator 1.5.8 (it will ask to install Dokany 1.4.0100 but uncheck that and skip)
  6. Download DokanySetup.exe for version 1.4.0100 from https://github.com/dokan-dev/dokany/releases/tag/v1.4.0.1000 and install
