We are pleased to announce the official release of Cryptomator Desktop version 1.18.0. Following the beta phase, this version brings the full package of improvements, new features, and stability enhancements—now available for all supported platforms.
That´s really great news, esp. the recovery thing!
But I do not see (Win 11) neither any difference in the “new” surface of Cryptomator, nor this window with the Recovery Vault Config shown above in the article.
Did I miss something, for example that it is only valid for new built vaults after updating and not for existing ones? And if so, do I have to renew the vault in any way?
Thanks!
If the vault is already on the list and, let’s say, it has a missing vault configuration file, there is a new button for recovering it. But in general, there is a new “Recover Existing Vault” option when trying to add a vault using the “plus” button at the bottom left. You can find more information here: Vault Recovery | Cryptomator Documentation
You do not have to take any action for existing vaults. It’s really just for rare emergency cases. The recovery key itself is not new, it was introduced in Cryptomator 1.5.0 (on April 16, 2020). However, you could only use it to reset a vault’s password until now. Btw, you can always show the recovery key inside the vault options.
