Confused to how Crypotmator works

Hello. I read the documentation and watched a couple of videos but I am really confused how crypotmator works. I download and created the vault, but I’m lost as to how to get my whole OneDrive encrypted? Do I have to upload files and documents from OneDrive individually for the encryption to work? Or is there an easier way to get encrypt OneDrive? Also, if the vault creates like a separate drive on my desktop, how do I know that my OneDrive is encrypted? I apologize if this is coming off dumb, but I’m just really confused.

Hi

1st of all: I assume you want to sync your vault with OneDrive and therefore have stored your vault in a directory that is included into the sync (aka the OneDrive directory). If you want to check, please open your Cryptomator app and have a look at the vault path you’ll find right below your vault name.

If you have unlocked your vault, a new (virtual) drive will show up in your explorer. This is where you put the files in you want to encrypt. If you want to have your OneDrive files encrypted, you have to move them from your OneDrive directory (where they are not encrypted) into the virtual drive.

The drive is only a virtual drive to show your encrypted files in an unencrypted way so you can work with them. The actual stored files are encrypted and generated by Cryptomator. You’ll find these encrypted files at the path shown under your vault name in the Cryptomator app.
