Compare files-to-back-up with mount vs. with encrypted files?

Hello, if my working files are kept unencrypted, is it best practice to back up by:

A) Comparing the unencrypted files to an unlocked Cryptomator mount, or
B) Encrypting first, then comparing to a locked Cryptomator vault

Hi.
I prefer to do „B“ but from a technical point of view there should be no difference.

Would “B” use 50% more drive space in total? That’s from doubling the local drive space.

A)
i) Unencrypted files on local drive
ii) Cloud drive mounted in local system and unlocked with Cryptomator

B)
i) Unencrypted files on local drive
ii) Encrypted files on local drive
ii) Cloud drive
