Cloud vs Local Storage

I have Cryptomator vaults in both iCloud Drive and Onedrive, is it better to mark it as “Keep Local” or allow it to be moved into the cloud? I know cloud storage replaces the files with symbolic links that the OS interprets as the actual file, but is that best for Cryptomator?

I’ve noticed that my performance is better with more recent files and lags when using older ones. I’m wondering if that lag is caused by requesting the file be downloaded to my Mac before Cryptomator can fully decrypt it.

Hi

I don’t have it local and don’t have issues. But there are some reports here that had problems with sync that were solved with keeping the files offline. So in theory there should be no difference.

That’s most likely the cause of it. To decrypt a file it has to be local available and thus be downloaded first by the sync client.
