Can't change permissions to delete file in MacOS

I have a few files in a folder in a Cryptomator/Dropbox Vault that aren’t the correct size after copying. When I try to delete them I get this error:

“The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read-Only or No Access, try again.”

Nothing is Locked. I can change some permissions but not the Everyone line which says No Access. So I still cannot delete the file in order to then try and copy from the unencrypted source again.

If instead of deleting I try to re-copy and replace the error message shows up again.

Note: Dropbox is set to online-only.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Cryptomator Community :slightly_smiling_face:,

“The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read-Only or No Access, try again.”

This is a message from the OS, but does not apply in this case, because Cryptomator uses fixed permission inside the vault.

With macFUSE i cannot reproduce it (damage an encrypted file and then try to delete it). But what you can do is:

  1. Unlock the vault
  2. Use the locate-encrypted-file-feature
  3. delete the encrypted files
