Android (GOS) Camera Upload without Duplication

  • I want to automatically sync the camera folder with my laptop
  • Since a vault cannot be mounted, I cannot tell the camera app to put all fotos in the Cryptomator vault as default location
  • Instead I tell Cryptomator to upload all new files from the camera folder to a specific vault
  • But, if that vault is synced locally, I have all files twice, once on my regular local camera folder and another time in the vault
  • So I have to chose a cloud-only vault
  • But then, if on my laptop for example, I delete, move, transfer or edit the files, these changes are not reflected on the local camera folder on my phone
  • Did I get all of that right? Any way arround this or just live with it?

Interesting issue. Never thought that having a backup copy that was unencrypted to be a problem. I don’t use this feature because my phone automatically uploads photos to multiple Cloud sources so there’s no point in trying to keep them encrypted.

I don’t see a way to very simply keep the entire collection of photos that are encrypted and unencrypted entirely in sync.

You could use something like Syncthing on Windows and SyncthingFork on Android to keep files synced. You would have to mount your encrypted vault on Windows for Syncthing to then read those unencrypted files and sync them to your Android.

I am switching from Syncthing to Cloud with Cryptomator. If it this issue persists, I might go back to Syncthing, at least for fotos
