haven’t been able to locate an information about nesting Veracrypt Containers within a Cryptomator Vault.

Reason - Keep the whole data encrypted and cloud portable but separate the “crown jewels”.

Hi. That does not make sense.
If you change a file in the veracrypt container, the container file changes and has to be uploaded complete. This would not change if the container file is located in a Cryptomator vault. It’s still the same amount of data (the complete veracrypt container file) that you have to upload. If you want to separate your data you should consider to just create separate Cryptomator vaults.
And: there is no benefit in Security if you encrypt a file by storing it in a veracrypt container and then store the veracrypt container in a Cryptomator vault.
(Im not sure if this even works)

Hi Michael,

thanks for the reply first of all, aber wir können vermutlich nach Deutsch wechseln.

Es geht mir erst einmal nicht um die Ökonomie (upload Frequenz und Co.) sondern um die Tatsache das Cryptomator für mich einen “ease of use” Fokus hat, jedoch einige Aspekte welche die “Vera” zur Verfügung stell nicht adressiert.

Hi.
Das kann ich verstehen.
Dennoch macht es keinen Sinn einen Verscrypt container in einen Cryptomator Tresor zu legen, da man dadurch einfach keinerlei Vorteile hat.
Cryptomator ist designed um (mehrere) Dateien sicher online ablegen zu können, und im Falle von Dateiänderungen nur jeweils die geänderten Dateien neu hoch laden zu müssen. Das wird aber keine Rolle mehr spielen, wenn die Datei ein (großer) veracrypt container ist.
Da kannst du dann auch direkt den veracrypt container hochladen. Macht keinen Unterschied.

Kann Michaels Aussage nur unterstützen. Du hast keinerlei Vorteile durch eine derartige Verschachtelung. Klar kannste das testen, vom produktiven Einsatz rate ich aber dringend ab.

Hi guys, did you tested upload Veracrypt conteiner into the Cryptomator vault? what was the result?
I see big benefit of this solution in keeping same folder/file organisation when moving whole hierarchy into cloud with Cryptomator vault.

Nooo please do not put a veracrypt container into Cryptomator.

Not only doesn‘t it improve the encryption in any way, it will have catastrophic I/O performance: Since the container is a single huge file, it gets completely rewritten when you change a single byte of it.
